You Got To Hand It to the Be Bop Wino

Now here's an idea to get past what Frank Zappa used to call The Brain Police...

the Be Bop Wino was sent an old album cover from the Atlantic release of Rock and Roll Forever from 1957... no album, only the cover... so he went off looking for the cuts, found them, and has reconstructed the album for those who want it... and if you do, don't forget "greaseyspoon"

Here's the link:

Howlers...

You just have to love the zaniness of Tim Conway...

Rhubarb Red

Rhubarb Red passed away a few days ago at the age of 94.

Years after he created the first solid body electric guitar, he went on to entertain millions on both radio and tv. Along the way, Red re-defined how musicians of all ages could create and record their music.

His first cut record in 1936, a raunchy ditty scribed by Andy Razaf, featured Georgia White on piano and Rhubarb Red popping off licks that have a distinctive Django Reinhart feel.

In the early 1930s, in Chicago - a town jumping with all sorts of music - Red was raking in a Grand a week. Red once reflected on his Chicago years, "... in the morning I was a Hillbilly, and at night, I was playing Jazz with Roy Eldridge, Coleman Hawkins, Nat Cole and Art Tatum.'

By 1937 Red settled nicely into C&W.

You can download Red's first record, with Geogia White on piano and doing the vocal, at this link:

Just to note: Rhubarb Red often worked under another name: Les Paul
