"I'm on the pavement, thinkin' about the government"

"I'm on the pavement, thinkin' about the government"

Voting this coming November is on my mind.

A friend living outside of Seattle has little to worry about- as the State of Washington though encouraging mail in voting, offers an alternative - each county opens a voting center prior to each primary, special election, and general election

My situation is something else. Trump is suing my voting State - Nevada - to prevent them from sending out ballets. Not sure how this will play out in the Courts - though the Constitution states this:

In Article I Section 4, the Constitution says: The times, places and manner of holding elections for Senators and Representatives, shall be prescribed in each state by the legislature thereof; but the Congress may at any time by law make or alter such regulations.

So, I suspect President Trump will loose his lawsuit against Nevada - and I'm pretty sure he won't initially get Congress to override Nevada law. Historically, mail in ballets favour Republicans. But there is always Executive Powers granted to the president in times of Emergency.

Now comes the hammer - Sec 3 of the Constitution on what powers are conferred to The President::

Section. 3.

He shall from time to time give to the Congress Information of the State of the Union, and recommend to their Consideration such Measures as he shall judge necessary and expedient; he may, on extraordinary Occasions, convene both Houses, or either of them, and in Case of Disagreement between them, with Respect to the Time of Adjournment, he may adjourn them to such Time as he shall think proper; he shall receive Ambassadors and other public Ministers; he shall take Care that the Laws be faithfully executed, and shall Commission all the Officers of the United States.

Key here:  "on extraordinary Occasions, convene both Houses, or either of them"

No way he would convene the House of Representatives - yet the Senate where the Republicans hold the majority is another story.

Why is it every time one looks deeper into the US Constitution one has cause for concern how our Democracy can be manipulated.

Your thoughts?
